Partners in Technology works closely with a relocation specialist, who we put in contact with candidates exploring relocating for a new job. A number of our client companies also provide personalized assistance with relocation. For those candidates in the very early stages of exploring relocation, we recommend the following websites for information:
Your first step might be a Yahoo or Google search for the city and state; many cities and towns will operate a website about the area with links to the local chamber of commerce, pictures and community information.
Remember to check Mapquest, Google Maps, or other map sites to look at the surrounding area. If a company is located in a big city you may want to check out the suburban areas.
Sites like city-data, epodunk, and cityrating will provide you with profiles of the cities you might be considering, including information on population, demographics, median income and housing costs.
Homefair offers a number of relocation tools, including a cost of living based salary calculator, and a “Community Calculator” which ranks communities in your target area in terms of similarity to your home town.
SchoolMatters is a great site for information on schools and school districts including size, performance on standardized tests, student to teacher ratio and spending per student.
